Damian Marley to release new album this month
It’s been just over a decade since Damian “Junior Gong” Marley released his landmark album Welcome To Jamrock which earned him a Grammy award in 2006 for Best Reggae Album. The title track for that particular album also gained Damian Marley a Grammy for Best Urban/Alternative Performance making him the first Jamaican artist to hold that Grammy. Since releasing Welcome To Jamrock 12 years ago, Damian joined forces with Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Dave Stewart, and A. R. Rahman to form a one-off supergroup project and release an album titled SuperHeavy, which hit retailers in September of 2011. Damian also released a joint album Distant Relative with Nas in 2010 and later followed up with a world tour.
sometimes it takes a few years before it’s really time to release it
Damian, the youngest son of reggae musician Bob Marley, will release his 4th studio album titled Stony Hill this month. Details are a bit sparse about the album itself, however as far as producing credits go, we now know that Damian produced the album himself with the help of his brother Stephen Marley. The lead single "Nail Pon Cross", released in August 2016, received a slew of mixed reactions from fans for what they call “horrible” and “sacrilegious.”
Damian also took time out to collab with another Jamaican reggae artist, Queen Ifrica for a little “true-versation” which was recorded some time ago but just recently released.
“So I guess it’s really about, you know, a courtship of a couple, but speaking about the intellectual part of it and how interested they are in each other’s thoughts and words. And, I mean, as a musician, I know how it goes, because out of my songs, sometimes it takes a few years before it’s really time to release it, you know what I mean? So I know that.”
Stay tuned for exact release date!
