High Times 2015 Jamaican World Cannabis Cup

In some amazing news, Rastafari Rootz Fest will host the first-ever High Times 2015 Jamaican World Cannabis Cup in Negril, Jamaica. The three-day event will take place from November 12th to the 15th and includes such musical acts as Luciano, Bushman, Fred Locks, The Mighty Diamonds, Tarrus Riley, Jah 9 and more. It will also include seminars on Rastafarian principles, and hold cannabis competitions.

According to Billboard, cannabis remains illegal in Jamaica. As of February 6, 2015 the Jamaican government decriminalized personal possession of up to two ounces to a five dollar fine. Prior to that, one could get arrested. Also, adult Rastafarians can be recognized for smoking it for sacramental reasons.

It is truly a milestone for Rastafarians and inhabitants of Jamaica

It is truly a milestone for Rastafarians and inhabitants of Jamaica to be able to participate in a High Times World Cannabis Cup since the event’s main focus is on the use of cannabis and the legalization of it. Not only that, High Times reports on its medicinal value, which is comparable to the Rastafarian teachings of using it for sacramental purposes of healing.

The event will be held from noon to midnight, local time, each day in Long Bay Beach Park located near the Seven Mile Beach in Negril. Adults age 18 and up are allowed, and this will be tightly enforced. This is most likely because the Minister of Justice, Mark Golding, was highly criticized for granting the event permit on August 17th, which happened to coincide with the birthday of the late, Marcus Garvey, according to Billboard.
