Raging Fyah Grammy Nomination

Jamaica based roots reggae band, Raging Fyah, has been taking the world by storm since 2006. They ventured out of their hometown of Kingston, Jamaica and started touring the world. They developed a large fan-base in places like Europe, Costa Rica, Siberia, and areas of the South Pacific. However, it wasn’t until 2016 that the band took their conscious reggae music to the United States. This was around the same time they released their third full-length album titled Everlasting. They quickly became loved for their memorable stage presence, their old-school reggae sound, and of course their positive and empowering messages. Lead singer and guitarist, Kumar Bent says, “That ‘70s vibe is a complete natural for us. We all listened to a lot of music from that period. The Wailers, Third World, and the British reggae bands like Steel Pulse and Aswad. It’s a big influence”.

“That ‘70s vibe is a complete natural for us. We all listened to a lot of music from that period.”

This year all their hard work on the album and their intense tour schedule on the road really paid off. Raging Fyah has just received one of the highest honors in the music industry. Their newest album, Everlasting, has been Grammy nominated for Best Reggae Album.  Back in Jamaica, Kumar reflects on the band’s accomplishments, “We feel honored and humbled, we are just taking it in, it feels good. It gives us a sense of accomplishment as humble musicians. It's more than just the band; it's the Jamaican culture, reggae culture. Being nominated is a win itself, it’s going to do a lot for the younger musicians. Coming from Edna Manley I think it changes the culture of musicianship, of the struggles we overcome. To be nominated for Best Reggae Album alongside Ziggy Marley, J Boog, Sly & Robbie, Rebelution and SOJA is a win for us, for all struggling young musicians, we give thanks, we feel really good”. Just from these few words alone, it is easy to see how humble and deserving these hard-working musicians are.

Raging Fyah is gearing up for another whirlwind of a year in 2017. They are starting out the year joining Tribal Seeds on their “Winter Roots Tour”, which will take place coast to coast throughout the United States. In addition to this, they will also be joining the legendary UB40 on their Grandslam 2017 tour. Top Shelf Reggae is looking forward to see what else is in store for Raging Fyah in the years to come and we highly recommend checking out their website for upcoming tour dates and catching a show or two by this talented band. They are the true definition of reggae revival.
