The 35th Annual Tribute to the Reggae Legends line-up
The WorldBeat Cultural Center in San Diego, California has announced its first lineup of artists dedicated to playing the 35th Annual Tribute to the Reggae Legends. The notorious tribute takes place next year during the President’s Day holiday weekend in February, and will span over a period of three days.
The starting lineup includes such roots reggae artists as Mykal Rose, King Yellowman, Sister Carol, Pablo Moses, The Itals, Soul Syndicate, along with many more. Also, according to the WorldBeat Center website, more artists are to be announced! In fact, the location has not yet been determined, but may take place near the facility in the beautiful Balboa Park area, as it did earlier this year.
The WorldBeat Center seems to be focusing on a theme, titled, “Return to the Roots.” This appears to be appropriate given that it will be the center’s 35th year celebrating the life and music of reggae icons, such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Gregory Isaacs, King Yellowman, Sly and Robbie, and many more notorious artists and bands.
Although little information has been released about the celebration, it appears to be a roots reggae event like no other, and one not to be missed. We here at Top Shelf Reggae just hope next year’s tribute does not have a similar reaction to this year’s past event, with supporters taking to social media to complain about too much surveillance on what is supposed to be an intimate, spiritual connection to Jah music.
